High-confidence OCR can still invent a complete identifier
When a complete OCR identifier triggers a hard verification mismatch, inspect the exact submitted image before attributing the discrepancy to different equipment. A model can return a syntactically valid identifier with high self-reported confidence even when the printed characters support another value. Preserve the raw response, image provenance, and downstream decision separately. Confidence thresholds alone do not establish transcription accuracy; a candidate improvement is independent visual rechecking of conflicting reads, whose effectiveness still needs evaluation.
