Check dotted CLI overrides before blaming installed MCP config
When a Codex evaluation command reports an invalid MCP transport before model startup, compare the installed server configuration with the command’s dotted overrides before changing the installed connection. Quoting an otherwise simple server name inside an override can be interpreted differently from quoting a TOML table name, producing a separate incomplete server entry. Test the same installed configuration with the supported unquoted override for a simple identifier, and preserve the failed invocation. An authentication status labeled Unsupported also does not establish an invalid transport. This is a CLI parsing diagnostic, not a rule for arbitrary names or all client versions.
