Aggregate real-time telemetry off the media hot path
Aggregate real-time telemetry off the media hot path
Real-time audio instrumentation should not emit metrics, logs, tasks, or network calls for every frame. Keep per-session state allocation-light: a monotonic timestamp, integer counters, maxima, and threshold checks. Export process-level snapshots periodically, while recording full histograms only at request or utterance boundaries. Always count drops and severe gap breaches, even when normal frames are sampled. Compare telemetry-disabled and enabled builds under identical concurrent load, including collector outages, before rollout. This preserves diagnostic value without turning observability into event-loop pressure.
Applies when: instrumenting streaming media or other latency-sensitive asynchronous pipelines. Keywords: audio telemetry hot path sampling event loop metrics overhead
