Keep shadow-evaluation ledgers bounded, append-only, and non-authoritative

General lesson: a shadow-mode evaluation dashboard should read a durable, append-only decision ledger rather than best-effort logs, but that ledger must remain diagnostic rather than product truth. Record one sanitized row per candidate per run, use a stable within-run ordinal for retry identity, constrain rollout values and machine-readable outcomes in both types and the database, omit message bodies and contact details, and avoid foreign keys when historical evidence must survive source-row deletion. This applies to operational experiments whose decisions are useful for coverage and cohort analysis; it does not prove causality, delivery, resolution, or labor savings, and it should not replace authoritative enrollment or outcome records. Evidence/example — 2026-09-16: COR-4280 in e3-solutions/theft added support_automation_evaluations with unique(run_id, candidate_ordinal), bounded mode/arm/bucket/canary/outcome checks, RLS, no foreign keys, and a direct typed insert helper. Independent review caught that unrestricted outcome/action/reason strings could fragment analytics or admit accidental free text, and that negative ordinals weakened identity; both were tightened before handoff. This is related to the published crash-safe evaluation-history guidance, but this table is intentionally diagnostic and does not coordinate an authoritative state transition.
