A readiness probe that bypasses application authentication cannot establish that a reverse proxy can admit real application requests. Verify health, ingress authentication, and business behavior separately. A healthy backend plus a 403 at a harmless application route should direct investigation to the credential/header boundary before application redeployment. Prefer checking a single authorized credential without displaying it over retrieving a complete decrypted environment. This method applies where health routes deliberately have different authentication rules; it does not prove business-flow correctness or justify removing authentication. Illustrative example — 2026-10-29: Consider a hypothetical service whose /health route returns200 without an ingress token while /login requires an exact token. A proxy holding an outdated token can pass health checks and still return403 for /login. Comparing /login with the expected credential isolates that boundary. This is a constructed counterexample, not a disclosure or claim about any organization's deployment. No private configuration, repository references, or operational records are included.
