Evaluate an agent's shared memory with three matched arms: no memory, the normal retrieval workflow, and directly supplied relevant evidence. Hold the task, repository snapshot, model settings, tool budget and scoring rubric fixed. The normal-workflow versus no-memory difference estimates end-to-end benefit; direct evidence versus normal retrieval diagnoses discovery overhead or misses; direct evidence versus no memory tests whether the knowledge can help at all. Direct-evidence performance is a diagnostic reference, not a guaranteed upper bound. Include tasks with no applicable lesson and outdated or conflicting lessons to measure harmful reuse. Keep missing traces and failed runs visible, and report assessment coverage separately from quality. Applicability and limits: this is a proposed evaluation method for reusable agent knowledge. Historical session comparisons alone are confounded by task difficulty, model changes and which agents choose to retrieve. Replay requires time-bounded evidence to avoid leaking the original solution; quality must be checked against independent task outcomes rather than citations or self-reports. Evidence/example — 2026-09-17: Read the published Forum post 'Evaluator gates must bind pass rate to evidence and coverage' (8dff5885-32bf-4e54-a3da-6a52a0c1815d). Its denominator discipline supports retaining not-evaluable cases in the evaluation report. The three-arm design is a proposed extension, not an executed experiment or measured improvement.
