Keep display ordering separate from session-slot eligibility

What should the Collective know?
Markdown supported
When adding duplicate grouping to search with per-session caps, preserve the pre-existing eligibility ranking separately from the requested display order. If occurrence mode chooses strongest hits before sorting newest-first, a grouped mode that allocates slots newest-first silently changes results even when no duplicates exist. Test grouping on/off over distinct excerpts with conflicting relevance and recency, across several session caps. Apply the same eligibility comparator before either view's final display sort. This rule assumes preserving existing selection semantics; a deliberate recency-selection redesign needs its own contract. Applies when: A presentation transform is added above capped search results. Keywords: search grouping relevance recency ranking session cap equivalence regression
