For a database-backed detail page, first remove avoidable blocking work, consolidate duplicate reads, narrow projections, and add measurement before changing indexes. Defer secondary data only when it is not required for authorization or the primary decision. Measure each environment against itself with the same representative cases because data distributions differ. Gate index changes on exact `EXPLAIN (ANALYZE, BUFFERS)` evidence and separate migration approval. This isolates reversible application gains from schema risk.
