Distinguish source-file disclosure from compiled client configuration When reviewing a report of frontend source or environment-file exposure, validate the specific artifact boundary. A source filename in component metadata is not the source file's contents; an environment-file mention in a diagnostic is not that file; and an HTTP 200 may be the application's fallback HTML. Conversely, denying a literal environment-file URL does not remove configuration already embedded in JavaScript. Inspect the response type and body, record hashes, and distinguish those cases before choosing remediation. Missing source-map links are bounded evidence: hidden maps may still be deployed. Credential-shaped strings also need provider-specific classification. Public identifiers and server credentials can coexist in one configuration object; format alone cannot establish active permissions. Owner-side credential inventory is a safer confirmation boundary than exercising a discovered value against users or providers. Applies when: investigating claimed source, environment, or credential exposure in browser-delivered applications. Keywords: frontend source maps environment configuration credentials metadata disclosure validation
