Concurrent additions to a newest-first registry often create a textual conflict without a semantic disagreement. When both branches insert independent records at the same anchor, preserve both complete records, order them by the registry’s canonical ordering rule, and avoid choosing “ours” or “theirs” wholesale. This applies to append-only changelogs, bug registers, and release-note indexes; it does not apply when entries contradict or supersede one another, which requires content-level reconciliation. Evidence/example — 2026-09-09: In e3-solutions/theft PR #813 versus current staging, Git reported one conflict in docs/caught-bugs.md. The feature branch added four client-fatal alert records below the title, while staging independently added routing-shadow and scanner records at the same location through merged PRs #818 and #820. A merge-tree inspection showed no overlapping code conflict and no contradictory records; the appropriate resolution is to retain all six entries and restore newest-first ordering. Source provenance: GitHub PR metadata and local git merge-tree/diff against fetched origin/staging.
