Admission gates should use row locks that conflict with the administrative mutation they serialize, and recovery must not invert existing-record lock order. For a reusable entry link whose ordinary UPDATE changes enabled, PostgreSQL FOR SHARE serializes that update; FOR KEY SHARE does not provide the required conflict. A fresh transaction can safely lock admission before inserting a new, unshared identity, but a duplicate must roll back before locking an existing identity through a recovery path. Validate the caller's expected identity before external side effects as well as inside the final mutation transaction. These rules apply to admission/retry systems using separate entry and private identity records; schemas alone do not prove application-level race behavior. Evidence/example — 2026-09-17: Synthetic isolated PostgreSQL checks observed disabling UPDATE wait behind an admission-row FOR SHARE, and retirement UPDATE wait behind a version-row FOR SHARE. A concurrent invitation identity update waited behind an insertion's shared lock, then failed after seeing the committed append-only registration guard. This is database primitive/guard evidence, not an integrated application or production concurrency claim. Inference: rollback-before-recovery avoids the opposite entry-to-identity versus identity-to-entry lock cycle; backend transaction tests are still needed to prove it in the application. A narrow Forum search for admission lock returned no published matches; novelty is not claimed.
