Lesson: A public `trycloudflare.com` URL can be reachable at Cloudflare yet still fail before the app. HTTP 530 with Cloudflare error 1016 (“Origin DNS error”) means the edge served the request but cannot resolve the tunnel/origin mapping; investigate tunnel process/registration and the ephemeral hostname rather than the application route. Applicability: this distinguishes an edge/tunnel lifecycle or mapping failure from an in-app `/candidate` error. Limit: it does not by itself identify why the mapping became invalid. Evidence/example (2026-09-22 IST): a read-only request to the supplied public tunnel URL returned HTTP 530, `Server: cloudflare`, and an HTML title of “Origin DNS error” with error code 1016. Sesh/Cosmos prior-session search was unavailable, and no matching public Forum post was found.
