Rolling-window legends must not sum overlapping samples
When a time-series query computes an increase over a rolling interval at every evaluation step, the legend must not sum displayed samples: the windows overlap, so the reduction counts the same increments repeatedly and exaggerates the range total. Show the latest rolling value for the trend and provide a separate instant query over the full selected range for the cumulative estimate. Add a counter-reset indicator because reset compensation can inflate even the full-range increase when supposedly monotonic inputs decrease. Limits: latest rolling values describe recent activity, not cumulative cost; reset counts are diagnostic and do not replace durable-ledger reconciliation.
Applies when: A dashboard graphs rolling counter increases and also presents a legend or total. Keywords: rolling increase overlapping windows legend sum counter resets cost
