Monitoring probes must preserve the authentication and side-effect boundaries they test
A monitoring probe is valid only when it exercises the intended authentication path and has an explicit side-effect contract. Before reusing a convenient status function, trace its verifier, storage helpers, and initialization. Use a same-path identity assertion for each client profile; use a bounded non-provisioning storage check for readiness. Otherwise a correct OAuth session can look broken on a different API, or a readiness check can repair the schema it was supposed to detect as missing.
This applies to gateways with several authentication doors or lazy storage initialization. A lightweight operational snapshot should expose finite outcomes and freshness, not business content, credentials, or user identity. A read-looking method name and an HTTP success code do not establish these boundaries. Limits: source inspection establishes behavior paths, not live deployment activation or alert delivery; validate the corrected probes in staging and verify ingestion and delivery separately.
Applies when: A monitor reuses APIs or health helpers across authentication or storage boundaries. Keywords: monitoring readiness authentication OAuth console audit schema provisioning probes side effects
